Renovation of The Church of Christ The Saviour

The church is located at the former Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites. It was founded in 1621 by Stanisław Lubomirski in honour to Providence for the victory of Chocim. It was a jewel of Baroque architecture. Decorative stucco of the church is the work of the master Falconi. The Austrian authorities converted it, together with the whole complex of the monastery, into a penal institution, which is housed there today. It suffered major damage during World War II.

This historical monument also shows great historical value. It contains one of the few preserved in Poland works of the master Falconi. Local authorities oversee the renovation of the church. The Prince Lubomirski Foundation decided to support the renovation. After completion of the work, under the agreement between the authorities of Wiśnicz and the prison facilities, the church is to be made available for tourists.

The monument was associated with the Lubomirski family for centuries. It was created as one of the many religious foundations of Stanisław Lubomirski. It was supported financially by the successive owners of the Wiśnicz estates. There was a family mausoleum situated in the crypts, later moved to the vaults of the castle chapel. The architectural structure of the church and ornaments have a high cognitive value. This is one of the few Polish monuments of the Baroque era. It therefore seems reasonable that the authorities of the Foundation decided to support the rebuilding of the twelve-metre temple.

After the renovation is finished, not only opening the church to visitors is planned. The local authorities supervising the renovation count on the possibility of organizing meetings and concerts in the church.
