Historical Reconstructions
The Princes Lubomirski Foundation promotes modern methods of acquisition and popularisation of knowledge. In addition to the currently most popular economic or technical courses taught at the Cracow University of Economics, it invests in the development of the widely understood humanities. It promotes the Polish language, culture, art, and history. That is why, it gives support to the Historical Reconstruction Group Per Saecula from Wiśnicz. It is an association formed by young enthusiasts, who organize reconstructions and history lessons for children and the school youth at the Wiśnicz Castle. They promote their “little homeland” by participating in major national and European reconstructions of battles, for example the Battle of Grunwald. They formed a symbolic banner of knights, which recreates daily life and battles from the 15th to the 18th century. They even undertook to organize the wedding in the Old Polish style with an attempt to recreate the forgotten dances, games and socializing.
This way young people can develop their passions and promote the region. Carrying out independent source research and experiments they enrich the state of knowledge of all of us. They examine, recreate and popularise the rich local history, often not easy to learn. They focus not only on the most important political events known to all but they recreate fields of knowledge much more difficult to discover. The answer to the question of what techniques used to sew knight’s, gentry, court and bourgeois costumes or shoes is not obvious and goes beyond the knowledge drawn from the preserved paintings. Methods of using weapon which was common a century ago, learning courtly games and customs are also often difficult to be recreated according to their course. It requires many months of preparation and perseverance. But it brings a lot of personal satisfaction and benefits to the development of science. The initial initiative of young people who were interested in local history has become an interesting and long-lasting project posing an alternative to the world of television and computer games.
The Foundation provides them with permanent content-related, legal and financial support. The young people have their own organization, which has been conducted for several years. They develop their interests, passions. They organize a lot of projects on their own. With the support of the Foundation, they can use the castle’s rooms, and have the funds for trips. Their activities can be developed. Without the help of the Foundation, the association would probably have never been established.
