The Prince Alexander Lubomirski Scholarships granted
The Princes Lubomirski Foundation cooperates with the University of Economics in the area of scholarship funding. The support is in the form of fixed, monthly payments. In the academic year 2011/2012 the Foundation will have two dependants – Olha Hnatyszak and Nazara Holovhaka. Both come from Stary Sambor located in Ukraine, Ms Olha has the Pole’s Card. The students are lacking money for basic needs and learning aids. The commitment of the Princes Lubomirski Foundation in scholarships funding is part of a series of projects related to the development of science, the promotion of Polish identity and the protection of the National Heritage.
Scholarships are awarded to students of the university which was founded thanks to the Foundation of Prince Aleksander Ignacy Lubomirski (1802 – 1893). Money earned on the shares of the Suez Canal, the Prince decided to donate to the National Division in Lvov for public and scientific purposes. The donation of 2 mln franks was the basis for establishing an institution for neglected boys, where they could find shelter and learn practical professions with the possibility of further learning. In 2005 the institution was converted into a higher education institution.
The Chapter distributing assistance is composed of many eminent persons. Present at the meeting, among others were the Founder of the Princes Lubomirski Foundation – Prince Stanisław Lubomirski-Lanckoroński and his plenipotentiary attorney Zbigniew Piasecki, His Magnificence, Rector of the Cracow University of Economics – Prof. Roman Niestrój, Ph.D, the Chairman of the Chapter, Pro-Rector for Student Affairs of the Cracow University of Economics – Prof. Andrzej Chochół, Ph.D. Eng., the Director of the Priest Siemaszko Foundation – Priest Ph.D. Bronisław Sieńczak of the Collegium Medicum, represented by Priest Józef Łyszyna of the Compedium Medicum.
