The Declaration of Independence of Poland

The Prince Regent Zdzisław Lubomirski was the initiator of the declaration of independence of Poland. The Regency Council was the only body of Polish political power recognized by other countries during the First World War. The Declaration of Independence was published on the 7th October of 1918 in the Official Journal (Monitor) in the form of a manifesto. It was signed by all members of the Council. It was the first appeal, which was of real political significance. It called on members of the Nation to rebuild the resurgent, free country.

Today, the official holiday of regaining independence is celebrated on the 11th of November to commemorate the acquisition of military power by Józef Piłsudski. His supporters created the date later. As a national holiday, it was established only after the death of the Marshal, who was a friend of the Prince Regent Zdzisław Lubomirski whom he owed his power. He also remembered about who had really declared the independence of Poland.
