THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013 AT THE CRACOV UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS.
“A man is the most valuable capital of every organization” – said the chancellor Andrzej Chochół during the opening ceremony of the 88th academic year which was held on the 8th of October 2012 at the Cracov University of Economics.
The University was established on the basis of the property funded by Prince Aleksander Lubomirski, who created an orphanage for poor boys.
The Princes Lubomirski Foundation still devotedly supports the University. For many years it has been participating in the Prince Aleksander Lubomirski Scholarship programme. The goal of the initiative is to financially support poor university learners of Polish descent living within the former Borderland of the Republic of Poland. There were about 40 people involved in the programme in 2011/2012.
The opening was started by a new chancellor of the Cracov University of Economics, Professor Andrzej Chochół, who led a matriculation ceremony for 1st year students. The governor of Małopolskie province awarded a number of awards, including medals for a service of many years. The annual award named after Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski was also given to the editor Jacek Żakowski for a series of economic interviews.
An inaugural lecture was delivered by Professor Marek Lisiński, whereas Holy Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Priest Stanisław Nagy.
Many eminent guests, among others Jerzy Miller – Governor of Małopolskie province, Jacek Majchrowski – President of Cracov, Jerzy Fedorowicz – Member of Parliament, participated in the ceremony. Representatives of other universities from all over the world, sports clubs, banks, the business world and the Princes Lubomirski Foundation were also among those invited.
