The Founder
STANISŁAW LUBOMIRSKI-LANCKOROŃSKI
For many years he has been committed to charitable activities, has been an active member of the Order of the Knights of Malta, organizer of charity balls in Wiśnicz, during which money for the building of the Centre of Early Diagnosis and Rehabilitation for Children with cerebral palsy in Wola Justowska, Kraków was raised; a CAT scanner for the children’s hospital in Prokocim was also purchased.
In 2010, continuing the best tradition of his family, he decided to establish a foundation of a wide range of activities, which operates in the area of education, ecology and conservation. He starts cooperation with the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment, Green Cross Poland, the Wilanów Palace Museum, local authorities and other organizations.
He was born on the 4th of July 1931 in Warsaw as a second child of princes’ couple Stefan Kazimierz and Krystyna, settled in Kruszyna near Częstochowa – family estate of the one of the family that rendered the greatest service to the Republic of Poland.He is a nephew of General Anders’ adjutant, related to Prince Regent Zdzisław Lubomirski; a member of the family, to whom belonged statesmen, artists, patrons of the arts, military commanders, and philanthropists.
An outbreak of war completely changed his life; it also stopped his carefully planned, in the beginning received at home, education and forced him to live in uncertainty for many years, in fear, and months of escapes. The year 1944 turned out to be critical when the Gestapo confiscated the store of medicines for the Home Army in his house and imprisoned residents. It was not better after 1945; the new authorities confiscated almost all of the estate of his parents.
Stanisław Lubomirski graduated from the primary school attending clandestine classes; he continued his education in the Gymnasium and the Lyceum named after Jan III Sobieski in Kraków. After graduating from the secondary school, he tried to get to the Jagiellonian University to study the history of art, law and Russian studies, but he was not admitted because of the lack of places, despite passing the exams. Finally in 1952, he got permission to study metallurgy at AGH University of Science and Technology, which he accepted. Despite the lack of interest in science, he graduated from studies with an engineering degree. Then he worked for eighteen years in the Lenin Steelworks (now Tadeusz Sendzimir Steelworks) in Kraków. He was appreciated only when a foreign delegation arrived. He knew foreign languages and turned out to be an excellent interpreter.
His sense of humour and great fortitude made him not give up for many decades of communist surveillance. In the circle of friends he used his business card “Stanisław Prince Lubomirski the First Locksmith of heat distribution network of Lenin Steelworks”. After the transformation of the system and after another years of struggle with officials of different ranks, he managed to regain some of the family estate, among others, the palace in Kruszyna. Cousin Karolina Lanckorońska, as the last member of this family who lived on the territory of Poland, decided to give her surname to him so that he could continue her family tradition.
He is interested in shooting, motorization and the broadly defined arts. Despite his impressive age and decades of difficult experiences, he has been cheerful and had the strength to respond to another challenges. Thanks to that he established the Foundation, which supports mostly young people, making it easier for them to start in adult life; he is actively committed to a few charitable organizations and the Family Association of the Lubomirscy, which promotes the Wiśnicz district and the rebuilding of the family castle. He belongs to the Honorary Committee of the Restoration of the University Children’s Hospital in Kraków-Prokocim encompassing many great personalities.
